Millard Dawson threw four touchdown passes, 3 to James Friedman, as the Scorpions routed the Sun Coast Bulls Saturday night 46-0. Sarasota opened the scoring less then 5 minutes into the game when Dawson found Avery Adams in the end zone for a 7 yard touchdown pass. Five minutes later Glenn Woods ran in a perfectly executed reverse for a 15 yard touchdown run. The next three scores were the Dawson-Friedman show as the Bulls secondary could not cover the speedy Friedman. Once they did, they couldn't bring him down and he was on the way to a 45 yard touchdown. The pair also connected on scoring passes of 21 and 29 yards. Patrick Calvary closed out the scoring late in the game with a 15 yard interception return for a touchdown. With the Scorpions holding a 24-0 lead Sun Coast broke loose for a 35 yard pass that gave them a first and goal at the Sarasota 2 yard line. Head Coach Emory Coleman called a timeout and he and Defensive Coordinator Craig Steward went out on the field to find out what happened. The Scorpions defense doesn't normally give up big plays like that. Whatever they said seemed to work as the defense came up with a brilliant 4 down stand, keeping the Bulls out of the end zone. That defensive stand led to Dawson's 45 yard td pass to Friedman. Dean Richter led the defense with 4 tackles including one during that important goal line stand, keeping the ball carrier just short of the end zone. FINAL STATS: Glenn Woods 16 yards rushing 1 touchdown Avery Adams 7 yards rushing Avery Adams 7 yards receiving 1 touchdown Millard Dawson 5 yards rushing Millard Dawson 102 yards passing 4 touchdowns James Friedman 95 yards receiving 3 touchdowns Martay Taylor 1 tackle 1 pass defended Mike Perkins 3 tackles Mike Loehr 2 tackles James Friedman 1 tackle Tommy Watts 1 tackle Patrick Calvary 1 interception 1 touchdown Tommy Tucker 1 forced fumble 1 fumble recovery Dean Richter 4 tackles Alan Clark 1 forced fumble 1 fumble recovery Leone Demmings 1 tackle 1 pass defended Sid Lowe 3 tackles Greg Kieninger 3 tackles Brandon Thomas 2 tackles 1 sack A special thank you to Samantha Richter and Michelle Thomas for being on picture patrol during the game! The East Coast Executioners will visit the Delmarva Bayriders on Saturday to kick off RIFL play for both teams. Delmarva is looking to get things going after having their season opener cancelled last week. East Coast and Delmarva are very familiar with each other and it should make for a great RIFL match up.

@ The Scorpions put their 1-0 record on the line Sunday when they host the Tampa Tigers. Sarasota topped Tampa 42-12 in the pre season but they are expecting a good battle this weekend. The Scorpions feature Millard Dawson at quarterback (RIFL leading 4 TD passes), and wide receiver James Friedman (RIFL leading 3 TD catches, and 95 yards) on offense. Dean Richter leads the defense with 4 tackles (2nd in RIFL).

Millard Dawson threw 4 touchdown passes, 2 to Alton Walker, Tommy Tucker rushed for two touchdowns and Greg Kieninger had 5 tackles, 2 sacks and a fumble recovery as the Sarasota Scorpions destroyed the Tampa Tigers on Sunday afternoon, 70-0. Three and a half minutes into the game the Tigers got a taste of what the game would be like when they lined up on their own 2 yard line and quarterback Worthy Jackson watched the ball sail over his head and out of the end zone for a safety and a 2-0 Scorpions lead. On the following drive the Scorpions marched right down the field and Tommy Tucker finished it off with a 6 yard jaunt into the end zone for his first score of the day. Dawson threw his first touchdown pass of the afternoon when he found Alton Walker in the corner of the end zone for a beautiful 31 yard strike and Sarasota had a 14-0 lead with 12:15 left in the half. Midway through the second quarter Kieninger sacked Tigers quarterback Kenny Shivers in the end zone for another Scorpions safety to make the score 16-0. The ensuing kickoff was promptly returned to the other end of the field by James Friedman for a touchdown. Officially it was a 48 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Friedman got great blocking from his teammates and hit a seam up the middle and then cut to the right and was never touched. That made the score 24-0. With 2 minutes left in the half Avery Adams scored his first touchdown of the year on a nice 2 yard run to the right. The conversion made the score 32-0 but the Scorpions were not done scoring in the opening half of play. Millard Dawson found Glenn Woods in the back of the end zone for a 25 yard touchdown toss to put the home team up 40-0 with thirty seconds left before halftime. As time ran out in the first half, Dawson found Walker again on the right sideline. Walker made the grab as he crossed the goal line and it was 48-0 Scorpions at halftime. The only scoring in the third quarter was a very strong run by Tommy Tucker. A 25 yard run early in the quarter put the Scorpions up 56-0. Twice the Tigers got inside the Scorpions 5 yard line but could not cross the goal line. The defense was once again outstanding only allowing a total of 56 yards of offense. Brandon Thomas, Kieninger, and Sid Lowe were constantly pressuring the quarterback and anytime a pass was thrown, Mike Perkins, Patrick Calvary and Mike Loehr were right there to defend the play. If they tried to run Dean Richter, Martay Taylor or Tommy Watts were right there to shut it down. One of the goal line stands by the defense led to a highlight reel touchdown connection between Millard Dawson and James Friedman. Midway through the final quarter Dawson, standing in his own end zone, lofted a deep pass down the right sideline for the streaking Friedman. With the pass a bit behind him Friedman stopped and made the catch at the 7 yard line, with 2 defenders draped all over him. He lost one of them at the 5 yard line but the other one refused to let go. Friedman dragged him 4 yards towards the goal line and finally shed the tackler at the 1 yard line before slowly crossing the goal line to give the Scorpions a 64-0 lead. At halftime Head Coach Emory Coleman challenged his defense. He told them "I want you guys to get me a score." Defensive Coordinator Craig Steward and Defensive Backs Coach John Sterling were up to the task, continually putting players in great position to keep the shut out in tact and keep the Tigers from moving the ball much. On the last play of the game Martay Taylor gave Coach "E" what he asked for. As time was running out the Tigers were trying one last time to get on the scoreboard but Taylor would have non of that as he intercepted the pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown as time ran out, giving the Scorpions a final score of 70-0. DAWSON LEADS UNDEFEATED SCORPIONS INTO DELMARVA SATURDAYThe Regional Indoor Football League's leading passer, Millard Dawson, takes his troops into Delaware this weekend for an important matchup between the undefeated Sarasota Scorpions (4-0), and the once beaten Delmarva Bayriders (3-1). The Bayriders only blemish came at the hands of the AIFA's defending Champion, the Reading Express in a very close game. The Scorpions have been destroying anyone that sets foot on the field with them, including a 70-0 victory a week ago. Dawson leads the league in passing yardage and touchdown passes and stands behind a very solid line that is determined not to let anyone get near their quarterback. Scorpions Head Coach Emory Coleman said "I hope people were paying attention last week up north. I was sending a message to other RIFL teams that we will not let up on the gas pedal." Delmarva's Shane Wooten responded "That's exactly what we want. We want their best. May the best team win. Bring it on!" Both teams also boast outstanding defenses with Sarasota posting shutouts in 3 of their 4 games. Can the Bayriders win this game? "Absolutely we can. If they think they are coming into our house and going to smack us around on our field....Well, let's just say, not gonna happen." said a Delmarva source. RIFL Commissioner Earl Christy is going to be in attendance for a special halftime ceremonial announcement. Visit the Scorpions website for more information at www.sarasotascorpions.com, or the Bayriders website at www.bayridersfootball.com, or the RIFL website at www.regionalindoorfootballleague.com.

Dean Richter had 11 tackles, Mike Perkins and Sid Lowe returned interceptions for touchdowns and Brandon Thomas recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown as the Sarasota Scorpions defense squashed the Delmarva Bayriders Saturday night en route to a 36-0 victory.
The Bayriders were held to only 87 yards of total offense and quarterback Julius Horton was kept in check as he was only able to complete 6 of 28 pass attempts for 55 yards. He also threw 4 interceptions.
Both teams played a very tough, close, hard hitting game. Sarasota got on the board just 1:51 into the game on the second play from scrimmage as James Friedman ran around the left corner for a 40 yard touchdown scamper to give the Scorpions a 6-0 lead. Delmarva responded with a decent drive that was helped out with a penalty for a late hit. But on 4th down a heavily pressured Horton’s pass fell incomplete and the Scorpions took back possession. But the Bayriders showed they were not planning on rolling over so quickly as two plays later Millard Dawson’s pass was intercepted. Once again the defense held strong as Dean Richter came up with a big 4th down tackle that left the receiver just short of the first down marker. With 4:26 left in the first half Delmarva was trying to tie the game as Horton saw an open receiver in the end zone. But when the pass was thrown Mike Perkins closed the gap, made the interception and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. James Friedman ran in the conversion and the Scorpions held a 14-0 lead at halftime.
With time running out in the half, twice the Bayriders tried to get on the scoreboard with passes to the end zone and twice Patrick Calvary made them pay with interceptions.
Delmarva took the second half kickoff and were working their way down the field slowly. But every time they made any progress it seemed they took two steps backwards. They were plagued the entire game with bad snaps and had numerous fumbles when the center could not get the ball to Horton. The drive finally ended inside the Scorpions 10 yard line when the home team couldn’t convert a 4th down attempt. Anytime Delmarva got near the goal line the Scorpions defense stood tall and had 2 very impressive stands with their backs to the wall.
The visiting Scorpions were able to put a little distance between the teams as Millard Dawson connected with Garon Moses on a 15 yard touchdown pass with 10:42 to play. Avery Adams ran in the conversion for a 22-0 Sarasota lead. Dawson and Moses hooked up three times on the drive for passes of 20, 10 and the 15 yard scoring strike. Dawson finished the night completing 6 of 18 passes for 72 yards and a touchdown. He was also picked off twice.
With 2:41 to play and the Bayriders desperately trying to move the ball and get on the scoreboard, another bad snap crushed any hopes of a late game comeback. A bad snap left the ball lying on the turf in the end zone and Brandon Thomas quickly pounced on it for a Scorpions touchdown and a 28-0 lead.
Delmarva started the ensuing drive again deep in their own territory after Martae Taylor made a nice tackle on the ball carrier on the kickoff. On the first play Julius Horton dropped back to pass and was looking for a screen. But big Sid Lowe had other plans. He jumped up and made a beautiful catch over his head for the interception and promptly returned it 7 yards into the end zone for the touchdown. Glenn Woods ran in the conversion for the final count of 36-0.
FINAL SCORPIONS STATS Millard Dawson 6-18, 72 yards, 1 touchdown, 2 interceptions, 1 carry for 2 yards
Tommy Tucker 4 carries, 11 yards, 1 fumble

The Sarasota Scorpions visited the Bayriders this weekend and Julius and several Bayriders players met us at the hotel and kind of gave us a run down on where things were. And during the game since there was not a lot of room there I was kind of stuck on the Bayriders bench. Even though things were not going their way on the field, he still was talking to me throughout the game and was very nice. During the game he even mentioned going out to eat with us after the game (which we could not do since we were leaving right away to head back to Florida). In all seriousness, as a part of the Sarasota Scorpions and as an owner of the RIFL, I hope that we can fill the RIFL with a lot of players like you Julius. Memorial Weekend shootout a successScorpions still rolling www.bradenton.com/2010/06/08/2343296/memorial-weekend-shootout-a-success.htmlThe Sarasota Scorpions, a Regional Indoor Football team, remained undefeated in the 2010 campaign with a 36-0 thrashing of the Delmarva Bayriders this past Saturday night.
The Scorpions’ defense did the damage with Dean Richter tallying 11 tackles and the unit stung the Bayriders to the tune of just 87 yards of total offense.
Sarasota’s offense didn’t do a whole lot — producing 131 yards of total offense — but the Scorpions (5-0) didn’t need to do much.
Not when the defensive unit shined with Patrick Calvary (two interceptions), Mike Perkins (INT, touchdown), Sid Lowe (INT, TD) and Brandon Thomas (fumble recovery, TD) producing the turnovers.
The squad is will next visit the Lake Erie Buzz at 7 p.m. June 19.
