CANTON, OH - The Ultimate Indoor Football League is pleased to announce the Player of the Week for the week ending May 21. Three different teams are represented in this week's honor roll.
It was an interesting week in the UIFL as Northern Kentucky clinched home field throughout the playoffs by virtue of its win over Eastern Kentucky and Johnstown victory over Saginaw. The Generals' win also enabled them to stay alive for the final playoff spot.
The Conquest Cards Offensive Player of the Week honors goes to River Monsters quarterback Jared Lorenzen. He becomes the first four-time offensive winner, claiming the award after accounting for eight touchdowns in Northern Kentucky's 54-40 victory. The left-handed signal caller threw for 227 yards and seven touchdowns.
Johnstown defensive back DeQwan Young had three interceptions, including one for a touchdown as the Generals remained in playoff contention heading into the season's final week. For his performance, he was named the Terry's Tire Town Defensive Player of the Week.
By recording two special teams scores, Huntington defensive back Victor Smith was named the Edge Sportswear Special Teams Player of the Week. He recorded a safety on a kickoff and had a 45-yard kickoff return for a touchdown as Huntington kept the upper hand on the final playoff berth.
