La Crosse, WI: After a bye week in Week 13 of the IFL season, the La Crosse Spartans (4-6) are back in action this weekend and back on the road. This time, they make the long trip back to Richmond, Viriginia, for the team's second matchup with the Richmond Revolution (1-9). The two teams met for the first time back on March 26 as the Spartans outlasted the Revolution 39-33. Despite giving up 33 points, defensively, La Crosse held Richmond to just 59 yards of total offense.
In that game, the Spartans jumped to a 33-0 lead at the half, only to see their opponents bounce back and take the game down to the final play. Spartans defensive back Kevin Buckley intercepted a pass in the endzone to secure the win for the Spartans, which at the time moved their record to 2-2 on the young season. Much of the comeback by Richmond was sparked by the loss of Spartans' kicker Mike Polaski. Polaski injured his hamstring in the first half and was not allowed back on the field due to cold weather and further injury risk. La Crosse found itself going for fourth and long plays and not being able to win the battle of field position following the injury.
Polaski is healthy once again and will be in action this weekend, however, offensive lineman James Washington will not be in uniform. Washington was suspended one game by the IFL for his actions in an on-field incident against Green Bay on May 7. Defensive lineman Xzavie Jackson will take on iron-man duties for the game by starting on the defensive line and filling in on the offensive line when needed in Washington's absence.
