The Pirates buck the Broncos!
Southlake, TX - The Pirates had another exciting Saturday in the Arena as they went to visit the Broncos. Both team's defenses put up a strong front to start off the game, but the pirates quickly alter the game plan and went to work. The Quarterback Taylor Wallis miss handled the snap on the five yard line putting the pirates in a 3rd down and 25. One play later, He threw a swing pass to running back Rex Harper and he did the rest by running 20 yards to pay dirt. On the next set of downs for Southlake, 1st year WR Anthony Sainciliare scored on 8 yard pass from Wallis. The Defense stopped the Broncos on the 15 yard line, setting up the next Pirates score of another 25 yard TD pass from Wallis to Mason.
The second half of the game started off with a fumbled kick off return by Mason that was recovered by Josh Booker. This set up the fourth touchdown of the day Wallis to Booker for 10 yards. The two point conversion was score by 1st year player Jahmikal Edwards. Booker was not quite finished with the Broncos picking of the quarterback in the end-zone. That set up Mason's 2nd touchdown of the game.
Coach Manos attributes the win to good play calling and execution on Offense and consistency on Defense. "We were able to see some of our areas of weakness, which is a great gift to receive, given that we just came off of a two week bye from playing. This gaves us time to make the adjustments that we need to fine tune these areas. We were also able to see most of our players get some game time action, which will allow us to continue to build on the skills that we need to improve on to be a real contender for post-season play. All in all, this was another game where most of our veterans stepped up and took care of Business, and our rookies were able to get some reps and expand on their game time experience. We had an awesome turn-out from our fans and we are thankful for all of the game day volunteers that came out to support our first home game of the 2011 season. We did have some injuries during the game and hope for a speedy recovery for those that were injured."
