CANTON, OH - The Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) is pleased to announce the league's weekly honors for the week ending May 8, 2011.
It was an interesting week in the UIFL that saw Johnstown keep its slim playoff hopes alive, while Saginaw's quest for the top seed stayed alive as well. As two teams were maintaining playoff aspirations, Canton's loss dropped them from contention.
Saginaw receiver LaVaughn Macon earns the Conquest Cards Offensive Player of the Week honors after hauling in the game-winning catch to lift the Sting over Northern Kentucky. Macon finished the game with nine receptions for 137 yards and three touchdowns. It was his third 100-yard game of the season. It's Macon's first award and only the second time this season a Sting player has earned the offensive honor.
The Terry's Tire Town Defensive Player of the Week honor goes to Johnstown's Toheeb Akinola. The defensive back recorded 11 tackles with two interceptions, including a 35-yard return for touchdown. His pick six helped the Generals reclaim the lead and spark a 30-0 game-ending run. He is the third Johnstown defender to claim the defensive award.
Johnstown gets a second nod as kicker Matt Demunkus earns the Edge Sportswear Special Teams Player of the Week. Demunkus connected on two UNO's.
