CANTON, OH - The Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) is pleased to announce the weekly honors for the week ending April 24, 2011.
It was a week that saw Northern Kentucky become the first team to clinch a berth in the league's four-team playoffs with the 64-56 victory over Saginaw. Meanwhile, Johnstown won their second consecutive game, beating Eastern Kentucky 41-37. The Generals moved a game behind EKY for fourth place. Huntington snapped a three-game losing streak with the 67-33 win over Canton.
The Conquest Cards Offensive Player of the Week honor goes to Northern Kentucky's Ricardo Lenhart. The receiver set a new UIFL single-game record with six touchdown receptions and tied the league record with 12 receptions as the River Monsters became the first team to qualify for the UIFL playoffs.
Saginaw's John Jacobs earns the Terry's Tire Town Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Northern Kentucky. Jacobs recorded a game-high 11 tackles with a fumble caused and 47-yard touchdown on a fumble recovery that nearly tied the game with 50 seconds left in the game. However, the Sting missed the extra point.
With a perfect kicking performance, Eastern Kentucky's Daniel Eidsonclaims the Edge Sportswear Special Teams Player of the Week. Eidson was 4-for-4 on extra points and 3-for-3 on field goals of 55, 47 and 29 yards, respectively.
In action this week, Johnstown (3-6) looks to continue to stretch its winning streak to three games when the Generals visit Saginaw (6-3) Friday. Eastern Kentucky (4-5), which is undefeated at home and winless on the road, hosts a Canton (1-8) team still searching for its first road victory. In the final game of the week, Huntington wants to avenge its 69-40 loss on April 1 when the Hammer hosts Northern Kentucky.
