MARION - The turmoil of a change at the head coach position has settled down, and the Marion Blue Racers are continuing their quest for a Central Indoor Football League title.
In his first game as head coach, Ryan Terry led the Blue Racers to a 31-14 victory last Saturday against the Dayton Silverbacks in Dayton.
Earlier in the week Terry had replaced Demetrius Ross as head coach following Ross' departure for family reasons.
"I want to give credit to our captains with dealing with the adversity," Terry said.
But Terry added the team's goals remain the same as they did when Ross was the head coach.
"It is always been about us and not about the distractions," Terry said. "It is about the Marion Blue Racers and not the other teams."
After playing their first four games at home, the Blue Racers (4-1) will be on the road for the second straight week, traveling to Port Huron, Mich., tonight to take on the Predators.
The two teams met in early March and the Blue Racers pulled out a 44-37 victory in their season opener.
Trailing by double digits going into the fourth quarter, the Blue Racers outscored the Predators 21-0 in the final quarter to take the win.
"We had some success defensively the last time we played," Terry said.
The Predators main offensive push comes from their running game, which is averaging 110 yards per contest, more than double any other CIFL team.
While the Predators (2-3) have been able to move the ball on the ground, getting passing yards is another story.
They have used three different starting quarterbacks through their first five games and are averaging just 55 yards per game.
"It's definitely been the biggest issue we've faced," head coach John Forti told The Port Huron Times-Herald earlier this week. "We haven't been able to settle on a quarterback because of injuries."
"The key for us is to be able to stop the run," Terry said. "On the other side of the ball we want to attack when we are on offense."
After Saturday's game, the Blue Racers will have their second bye week of the season and then return to the Veterans Memorial Coliseum on April 30 as they host the Chicago Knights.
