It isn't win or go home, but it's getting close to that point for the Port Huron Predators.
Today's game against the Marion Blue Racers (4-1) is critical for the Predators (2-3) if they want to be in the thick of playoff contention going forward.
"They are disappointed how we are playing," Port Huron Predators coach John Forti said of his players.
"We should be playing better. Even in the games we have won, we haven't played close to our potential. We have to get there."
That starts this week against Marion, which handed Port Huron its first loss of the season March 5.
"I would think they are better than they were when we faced them," Forti said. "They beat us last time. I could imagine them coming in very confident."
The Blue Racers defeated the Predators 44-37 in Week 2 behind a torrid fourth quarter, in which they erased a double-digit Port Huron lead.
The Predators surely will be motivated to face a team they thought they should have defeated.
It also will help to have quarterback Calvin Toliver back in the fold.
He missed the past two games with a separated right throwing shoulder.
"I think he can do a good job," Forti said. "He's smart, he understands the game. We just have to get him in there and get him up to speed.
"This is a big game for us. It's the biggest game of the year so far. We have to win this game if we want any shot of doing anything. We have to win."
