CANTON, OH - The Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) is pleased to announce the Players of the Week for the week ending April 10, 2011.
The team is highlighted by two three-time winners and a first-time honoree. It also marks the second consecutive week Northern Kentucky had two players nominated.
For the third straight week, the Conquest Cards Offensive Player of the Week goes to Northern Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen. The left-handed signal caller tied his own single-game record with nine touchdown passes against Canton. He was 17-of-30 for 251 yards to go with his nine throwing strikes.
The other three-time award winner is Northern Kentucky kicker, Dustin Zink, who claimed the Edge Sportswear Special Teams Player of the Week. Zink converted all 11 of his extra-point attempts and recorded his league-leading fifth UNO of the season. In addition, he average 43.8 yards on his kickoffs.
Saginaw's Phillip Smith becomes the first Sting player to earn the Terry's Tire Town Defensive Player of the Week. He is third Saginaw player to earn the league's weekly award. Smith enabled the Sting to secure sole possession of second place in the UIFL standing with eight tackles, one for loss and one interception.
