Ross was in his first year as the team’s coach and Blue Racers are currently 3-1 in the Continental Indoor Football League, one game back of the first place Cincinnati Commandos.
“Coach Ross had to step down because of a family situation,” Blue Racers CEO/general manager LaMonte Coleman said. “He has done a good job for us. We wish him the best and see him in the future.”
Defensive co-ordinator Ryan Terry has been named as the head coach and will begin his duties immediately.
“Coach Terry is our full-time head coach,” Coleman said.
The Blue Racers are scheduled to play the Dayton Silverbacks on Saturday in Dayton.
Ross’ brother, Blue Racers assistant coach Derick Ross, also stepped down to provide support for his brother Coleman said.
Demetrius Ross sat out last week’s game, a 78-0 win over the Indianapolis Enforcers, suspended by the CIFL for a roster violation, but Coleman said that suspension had no bearing on Ross leaving the team.
“I’ve known about (family issues) for some time, so this is not a sudden move,” Coleman said.
Messages were left for Demetrius Ross but have not yet been returned.
