MARION — The Marion Blue Racers dominated on both sides of the ball Saturday night in rolling past the Indianapolis Enforcers 78-0 at the Marion Fairgrounds Coliseum.
Setting a new league mark with eight rushing touchdowns in one game, the Blue Racers also got four touchdowns from their defense to push their record to 3-1 on the season.
With Port Huron losing to Continental Indoor Football League leader Cincinnati, Marion took over sole possession of second place in the CIFL, one game back of Cincinnati.
The Blue Racers scored four touchdowns in the first quarter and matched that total in the second stanza to take a 53-0 halftime lead.
All of its plays in the second half were running plays but Marion was still able to add to its total, scoring two touchdowns in the third quarter and two more tallies in the fourth quarter.
For the game the Blue Racers counted 170 yards on the ground, led by Christen Haywood’s 57 yards on 10 carries. He also scored three touchdowns, all in the first half, while Jerard Bennett scored twice and Lorenzo Best, Antonio Wells and Timothy Robinson each crossed over the goal line once.
But the defense also did its part, intercepting four passes, recovering three fumbles and for good measure sacking Indy quarterback Dean Vinson five times.
Three of the fumble recoveries came in the end zone, one each by Ray Saunders, Bryceson Lawrence and Ryan Palmer, while Mike Ellison added a pick-six with his interception.
Indianapolis (0-4) was held to 35 yards and never got past the Marion 15 for the game.
Marion will play its first game on the road next Saturday as the Blue Racers take on the Dayton Silverbacks, a team it defeated 34-13 just one week ago.
