CANTON, OH – Back-up quarterback Tavares Woodley connected with Ryan Brinson with six seconds remaining from 14 yards out lifting Canton to its first victory of the season, beating Saginaw, 53-52, Monday at the Canton Civic Center in Ultimate Indoor Football League action. (Game Stats)
It was Brinson’s tenth reception and fourth touchdown catch of the game. He set a new yardage record, hauling in 204 yards. Brinson, another new acquisition, is the first UIFL receiver to break the 200 yard barrier.
Canton owner Andrew Haines was so confident in the team’s personnel changes that he guaranteed his Cougars to beat Saginaw. He was so convinced that if they lost, all the fans in attendance would have received a free ticket voucher.
It’s Saginaw second straight loss, and drops them to third place – a game behind co-leaders Northern Kentucky and Huntington.
Woodley, who was signed this week, came off the bench to spark the Cougars’ fourth-quarter comeback. He finished 5-of-7 passing for 96 yards and three touchdowns.
Saginaw’s Tommy Jones was 19-of-33 for 224 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception.
