Amarillo, TX 3/7/11 - The Amarillo Venom continue to make roster moves this week as they sign Wide Receiver and Kick Returner Dexter Henderson.
"Henderson was a nice pick up for us," said Rodney Blackshear the Amarillo Venom Head Coach. "We will get him some reps in practice this week and see if he can earn some playing time."
Henderson said one of the main reasons he decided to come to Amarillo was his relationship with Derek Rasmussen, who he played with at Evangel University and the Venom signed last week. Henderson said it has been three years since they have played together but he is looking forward to it.
"We've always talked about playing together and we've kept in contact throughout the years," said Henderson. "Rasmussen and I have a good relationship both on and off the field. We are buddies and hang out all the time so that connection will help us out."
It is still uncertain if Rasmussen will be the one throwing passes to the newly acquired Henderson, as Rasmussen and X'Zavier Bloodsaw continue to battle it out for the starting quarterback position. A starter will not be named until later in the week after the coaching staff has had time to evaluate what each player was able to in practice according to Coach Blackshear.
The decision will have to be made by March 13th as the Venom head to Oklahoma City to take on the Bricktown Brawlers. The Venom's first regular season home game is March 18th as they host the Wyoming Calvary. Season tickets can still be purchased through the Amarillo Venom offices, located at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo, by calling 806-350-7277, stopping by any United Supermarket location, or by going to www.panhandletickets.com .
