SFL Holds Second Successful Ft. Lauderdale Barracudas Tryout.
Dateline Ft. Lauderdale, FL, March 12, 2011. The SFL has held another successful tryout in Pompano Beach Florida. Many of the players are able to play at the professional level. In one case, a 19 year old player ran a 4.4 40 yard dash. There was also a very accurate quarterback, throwing the ball over 70 yards. Head coach, of the Ft. Lauderdale Barracudas, Maxie Pete and assistant coach Marty Butler-Culpepper were impressed with the quality of the line-backer talent that attended today’s tryout. The SFL plans to hold another tryout in the South Florida area within the next two weeks.

By Scott Adamson Anderson Independent Mail Posted February 26, 2011 at 11:59 p.m www.independentmail.com/news/2011/feb/26/now-you-can-own-professional-football-team/With a potential NFL lockout set to begin in less than a week, there’s really no better time to invest in a new outdoor football league. So go to your couch, remove the cushions, and see if you can shake out $1,500,000 in chump change.
If you can — and you act now — then you could have a Stars Football League franchise on the field by April.
Even better, the league is asking for only $350,000 down; it’ll finance the rest.
Sweet.
This month SFL officials were in Charleston, scouting the area to see if it was ready and willing to give some 11-on-11 pro football a try. If you live on the coast and have the money, this franchise could be yours.
On the other hand, if you don’t want to go to all the trouble of finding a city and naming the franchise, the SSL has already done the work for you.
A couple of clubs, the Michigan Coyotes and New Orleans Jazz, apparently already have owners.
As the inaugural season looms, however, the SFL has four franchises in need of a daddy — the Ft. Lauderdale Barracudas, Daytona Beach Racers, Mobile Gladiators and Little Rock Ironmen. Heck, they even have logos and a couple have hired coaches.
The only thing missing is your cash.
“The League also has the flexibility to add teams for the 2011 season. Any prospective owner may partition the League for a team in his location,” says a news release on the SFL website.
Cool.
I wasn’t sure what “partition the League” meant. I thought perhaps I could petition the League for a team, meaning I could give the SFL a written request for a franchise and have the league’s board of directors consider my request.
But if I can partition the league, I can actually divide it into parts.
That makes no sense, but I like the sound of it.
And as for player salaries, I was wondering how much I’d need to shell out because the SFL promises top quality pro football entertainment in under served (as opposed to undeserved) markets.
So I went to the website again and clicked on the “Players Salaries” tab:
“Stars Football League announces that players salaries will commensurate with other professional football leagues.”
I love the word commensurate. It means, “corresponding in size or degree; proportionate.”
In the case of the SFL it means everything and nothing.
If I want my players salaries to “commensurate” with NFL salaries, I’m going to have to go back to the couch and shake it in hopes of finding a whole lot more change.
If I want their salaries to commensurate with United Football League salaries, though, I’m in a much better position.
At any rate, I’m pumped about the possibilities. I’m going to spend the rest of the weekend searching for enough money to buy a team — a team I’m going to call the Upstate/North Georgia Ill-Tempered Piranhas.
Then on Monday, I’m going to partition the League for membership.
