BLOOMINGTON (Ill.) - Bloomington Extreme General Manager Beau Bradle announced Monday, October 4, 2010 that Mike Murray will be the Head Coach of the Bloomington Extreme Indoor Football team. Murray will be the third Head Coach in Extreme franchise history as the team will begin its sixth season of play in late February of 2011. The Extreme will be seeking their fifth consecutive playoff berth.
Mike Murray was the Extreme's Offensive Coordinator during the Extreme's inaugural 2006 season and is currently in his fifth full-time season of his second tenure as an Illinois Wesleyan assistant coach, serving as the team's Defensive Coordinator and linebacker coach. A 1984 graduate of Illinois Wesleyan, where he lettered in both football (tight end who made 52 catches for 860 yards) and baseball, Murray was a IWU assistant from 1987 to 1996 before becoming Head Football Coach at Dubuque (1997-2000) and Benedictine (2001-2002). Before going to Dubuque, Murray spent 10 seasons as defensive coordinator at Illinois Wesleyan, where he also served as head men's and women's track coach, golf coach and recruiting coordinator. Mike and his wife, Anne, reside in Bloomington and are the parents of Laura, Amanda, David, and Bryan.
In addition to the Extreme Head Coaching duties, Murray will also handle the Defensive Coordinator responsibilities for the Extreme. An announcement regarding the Extreme assistant coaches will be made shortly.
