Some thoughts about the Tri-Cities Fever’s four-overtime road loss to the Fairbanks Grizzlies on Monday night:
• Still checking with the IFL office, but the four overtimes might be a league record.
• For a guy who has been out of indoor football for a few years, Fever receiver Kevin Heard looked good. Unofficially, Heard had six catches for 100 yards. He’s a pretty good bowler too, averaging over 200 in a league at Spare Time Lanes.
• Speaking of stats, the league still hasn’t posted the game’s official numbers yet.
• Unofficially, Zillah product Andy Collins had 260 yards of passing to go with his six TD passes.
• Fever receiver Thyron Lewis owes kicker Brett Jaekle a dinner. Lewis scored on a 20-yard pass from Collins at the end of the first overtime.
But then he jumped over the dasherboards and onto a stage where the Fairbanks cheerleaders were performing and started dancing.
The Fever was given a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for the extra-point kick, meaning Jaekle had to make a 35-yard kick just to keep the game going. He did so.
• Watching Fever linebacker Derek Nicholson, out of Florida State, run down ball carriers this season is going to be fun.
• Tyson Thompson, who returned kickoffs for the Dallas Cowboys back in 2005, returned a kickoff 54 yards for a Fever touchdown. It was called back, however, because of holding.
• Speaking of penalties, the Fever had over 160 yards (unofficially) in penalty yards.
• Fever defensive back Ray Little returned a missed field goal 52 yards for a touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff, he was hit from behind into the dasherboards and injured. The extent is unknown, but he left the game and never returned.
• While it was warm inside the Carlson Center on Monday night, it was supposed to get down to minus-12 degrees that night in Fairbanks.
• Former Washington State University lineman Vaughn Lesuma was starting for the Grizzlies at offensive tackle. Mike Quinn, who played at Eastern Washington, was a defensive lineman for Fairbanks.
