KENNEWICK -- The Arena Football One's recent acquisition of all the former Arena Football League and arenafootball2 holdings has created an identity crisis for two former teams.
Both Arkansas and Amarillo, which jumped to the Indoor Football League this season, recently announced that they were changing their logos and mascots, rather than lease or buy the rights to their name from the new AF1.
The Tri-Cities Fever is not changing anything.
Co-owner and general manager Teri Carr said she has made an agreement with the AF1 to keep the Fever name. She would not disclose any more details about the deal.
Arkansas will shed the Twisters name in favor of the Diamonds. Amarillo has yet to announce its new name and logo.
Green Bay, which also made the jump from the af2 to the IFL this season, announced in January that it will keep the Blizzard name after purchasing the rights.
-- The Fever signed quarterback Houston Lillard from Southeast Missouri State.
In 2008, he completed 166 of 292 attempts for 2,067 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also threw 13 interceptions. Lillard is the second quarterback listed on the Fever's training camp roster.
-- Quarterback Colin Drafts was officially signed by the Dallas Vigilantes of the AF1 last Wednesday.
-- Courtney Miller, the defensive back that former Fever coach Pat O'Hara traded for in December, seems to be a popular guy.
Miller is listed at 6-foot-2, 199 pounds on the roster on the Fever's Web site. Miller is also listed on the Wenatchee Valley Venom's roster on its Web site. There he is listed as 6-2, 210 out of Oregon with five years of professional football experience.
-- The coundown to the IFL's 2010 season opening weekend is less than 18 days away.
The season kicks off Friday, Feb. 26. The Fever opens training camp Feb. 22 and its season opener is March 8 in Fairbanks, Alaska.
-- Arena football's new league has reached a one-year agreement with the NFL Network to broadcast a game of the week.
Spokesman Dennis Johnson confirmed that the network will show one of Arena Football One's games each Friday night under the deal, which also has an option for a second year.
