Just got a word that the AAFL is going to fold up shop (possibly today or later this week) before their season starts April 12th.
With all the costs that the league signed up for, it's no wonder that this occured. I guess all those indoor football players that got picked up by the AAFL will be looking for places to play again.
It's really too bad. I don't like to see failures like this. It isn't that it is a totally obsurd idea, but the way the budget was stacking up, it obvious that it wasn't going to make it very long.

that would suck big time for all of those players.
I guess I'll just have to wait longer to hear 'Touchdown Eric Crouch' again...

sad, I don't think any pro teams should start outdoors. Leave that to the NFL (and CFL) and minor league opportunities. Everyone else should concentrate on indoors and be covered right here on IFF. The XFL was unique (can you say He Hate Me) but didn't last either.

I LOVED the USFL. It would've contiued to grow if left alone during the spring. The Donald killed it.

That's a shame. I was actually thinking about going up to Birmingham to see a game or two.

The AAFL already dug their own grave by announcing that they were going to fold if they don't get the necessary funding needed to get the season underway. It shows that they're already on shaky ground. The funding that got may get them through the first season. But I'll bet my next paycheck that that's about as far as it will get them.
If they do play this season, they'll be one and done.
