www.ledger-enquirer.com/sports/story/572922.htmlColumbus will be the home to one of eight teams in the inaugural season of the United National Gridiron League.
The first game of the 10-game season is scheduled for Feb. 8. The final game will be April 12, two weeks before the NFL draft. The league has not released a schedule or ticket information.
The UNGL strives to be a professional developmental league, preparing players for the NFL or the CFL, according to Nick Saraceni, Executive Vice President of football operations for the UNGL.
The NFL previously used NFL Europe for that purpose, but the league ceased operations as it lost a reported $30 million annually.
“We are really excited about Columbus,” Saraceni said. “Columbus is a great city with a lot of history and lots of military support.”....article continues in link.

www.cantonrep.com/sports/x1589173989/Sunday-Special-New-football-league-on-shaky-groundSunday Special: New football league on shaky groundThe start-up football league that wants to put a team in Massillon will not kick off as scheduled Feb. 8. I know, big surprise.
The United National Gridiron League ran into financing problems a league spokesman blames in large part on the banking crisis. Again, big surprise.
That doesn’t mean the league won’t become a reality. The UNGL has promised — for the second time in a week — to release information Monday on a new start date, team names, logos and an updated schedule.
Tom Devlin, the UNGL’s spokesman, believes the Massillon franchise will still be a go but would be delayed in starting for a few weeks.
“There have been some kinks in the system with the financing due to some liabilities,” Devlin said. “That’s part of what we’ve been working on. ... From a layman’s view, every bank is worrying about every little thing right now.”.....article continues in link.

McQuinn is a former Iowa Blackhawk. Fred, hope you don't mind the post. www.zwire.com/site/index.cfm?newsid=20246390&BRD=2703&PAG=461&dept_id=553867&rfi=8
McQuinn, Gentile get shot at pro football JACOB HAINLINE, Staff Writer, jacob.hainline@nonpareilonline.com 01/22/2009 In high school, Brock Gentile and Jeff McQuinn were rivals. In Georgia, they'll be teammates.
When the soon-to-be launched United National Gridiron League kicks off next month, Gentile, a former St. Albert standout, and McQuinn, who starred at Lewis Central, will be part of the same defensive unit.
Both men were selected earlier this month when the new league held its draft. And though the two Council Bluffs natives had never played for the same team, they were each chosen by the UNGL's Georgia franchise, based in Columbus, Ga....... article continues in link.

I'm thinking the UNGL's marketing efforts...um...stink.
Supposedly, there's a team that's set to kick off about six blocks from my house. Haven't heard a peep about it.
