Associate Judge Michael Stroh issued the warrant after Johnson was more than 15 minutes late for a pretrial hearing. The charges were filed after an April traffic stop by Illinois State Police.
A defense lawyer told Stroh that Johnson contacted her and said he is in Florida and could not be in court. Court records indicate Johnson was given the court’s permission in July to go to Florida.
The warrant will be served if Johnson returns to McLean County, a prosecutor told The Pantagraph. He will be required to post $300.
Johnson was second on the Extreme with 668 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns last season.
The Extreme has not re-signed Johnson for the 2012 season, general manager Beau Bradle said. Bradle added that he was uncertain if head coach Mike Murray planned to bring Johnson back next season.
The team’s two other leading receivers, James Walton and Johnny Gray, were traded to division rival Green Bay on Monday in exchange for quarterback Willie Copeland and offensive lineman Tim Mueller.
