CANTON, OH – The Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) is pleased to announce the final weekly nods for the 2011 season. For the second consecutive week, three different teams were presented. (UIFL Weekly Notes)
It was a week that had Huntington (7-7) taking apart Saginaw (9-5), 49-25, to secure the league’s final playoff berth, while Eastern Kentucky (8-6) and Northern Kentucky (11-3) went to the wire with each other. In the other game, Johnstown (6-8) ended its season with 45-12 victory over Canton (1-13).
For the fifth time this season, a NKY quarterback earns the Conquest Card’s Offensive Player of the Week honors. However, this time is was back-up quarterback Ryan Wells. In his first career start, Wells hit on his first seven passes, connecting on 26-of-36 passing for 288 yards and six touchdowns.
Johnstown’s Aaron Princes earns the Terry’s Tire Town Defensive Player of the Week honor. It was the second straight week a Generals defender earned the laurel. Princes finished with 11 tackles, one for a loss and a sack in the Generals’ season-ending victory over Canton.
Daniel Eidson connected on a 17-yard field goal with 24 seconds remaining to lift the Drillers to the 44-43 victory over Northern Kentucky en route to earning the Edge SportsWear Special Teams Player of the Week. In addition to his game-winning field goal, Eidson connected on a PAT and threw for two two-point conversions.
The Ultimate Bowl I playoffs starts 7:30 p.m. Friday when Northern Kentucky travels to Saginaw, and then Eastern Kentucky hosts Huntington 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
