NKY had a chance but Willie Idlette was tackled in bounds as the clock expired.
Eastern Kentucky’s defense deserve a lot of the credit as they forced the River Monsters into a mere 1-of-8 on redzone conversions. Then, held strong as NKY attempted to put its final drive together.
Subbing for Jared Lorenzen, back-up quarterback Ryan Well played very well in his first career start. He completed his first seven passes en route to 26 of 36 passing for 288 yards and six touchdowns. Receiver Ricardo Lenhart pulled in 11 passes for 115 yards and six touchdowns. Willie Idlette added seven receptions for 104 yards and two touchdowns.
Matthew Barbour led the Drillers with nine receptions for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Justin Lamb added two touchdown catches in the victory.
EKY’s Jamell Mingo had a game-high 10 tackles with a forced fumble, fumble recovery and interception. Northern Kentucky’s Jon D’Angelo became the first player with 100 tackles, recording eight tackles with two interceptions.
JOHNSTOWN 45, CANTON 12 – Johnstown stayed alive in the race for the final playoff spot as the Generals’ defense held Canton scoreless for the last three quarters en route to the 45-12 victory Saturday. (Game Stats)
DeQwan Young recorded three of the team’s six interceptions, while Terrance Hudson added two picks. Canton actually out-gained the Generals, but the six picks stemmed any momentum.
With Johnstown’s victory, Huntington needs a win Sunday over Saginaw to claim the last spot. If Huntington losses, the last playoff berth will go to Johnstown.
