Indianapolis at Cincinnati
The defending CIFL champion, undefeated and first place Cincinnati Commandos remained perfect on the year with a 81-0 pounding of the visiting Indianapolis Enforcers.
The Enforcers closed out their first season in the CIFL with a 1-9 record. Indianapolis’ lone victory came over Port Huron. As has been the case all season, Indianapolis has struggled all season due to injuries and the offense lacked the fire power in the final game.
Cincinnati jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Tyler Sheehan completed a 12 yard touchdown pass to George Murray and the Commandos led 6-0. They increased their first quarter lead to 14-0 when Sheehan ran in from yard out. The Enforcers scored twice early in the second quarter. Sheehan completed a 24 yard pass to Brandon Boehm and Sheehan then completed a five yard pass to Kyenes Mincy. The halftime score was 29-0.
The third quarter saw much of the same. The Commandos scored four times in the stanza. Sheehan started the scoring by passing 27 yards to Mincy; then George Murray passed two yards to Barnett, then Brooks ran in from three yards out followed Murray’s 19 yard pass to Barnett. After the third period, the score was 55-0.
Cincinnati tacked on four more touchdowns in the final stanza. The first score came when Murray passed 32 yards to Mincy; followed by Murray’s 19 yard pass to Barnett; then Jeff Franklin ran a 32 yard interception back for a score and the final score came when Wendell Brown recovered a ball in the end zone. The final score was 81-0.
The Enforcers were led on offense by quarterback DeMarcus Simons who completed five of 21 passes for 37 yards and three interceptions. The top receiver was JaMarcus Walters, who caught one pass for 33 yards. Indianapolis lost 34 yards of offense rushing. The top defender was Karl Jones, who had two unassisted tackles and three assisted tackles.
Cincinnati was led on offense by two quarterbacks. Murray completed eight of 11 passes for 112 yards and four touchdowns and Sheehan who completed four of eight passes for 68 yards and four touchdowns. The top receivers were Mincy, who completed four passes for 70 yards and three touchdowns and Barnett, who had five passes for 64 yards and three touchdowns. The top receiver was Moore, who had two rushes for 32 yards. There top defensive player was Brown, who had seven unassisted tackles and two assisted tackles and blocked punt. The other defender was Pernell Phillips, who had five unassisted tackles, one assisted tackles and three unassisted sacks.
Indianapolis will regroup and look forward to an improve season in year two. Cincinnati will close the regular season against second place Marion, which will determine who wins the outright regular season championship.
Marion at Chicago
The Blue Racers did their part to set up a showdown for the CIFL regular season championship by defeating Chicago 53-22 on Sunday afternoon.
The win moves Marion to 8-1 overall and keeps them in second place, one game behind first place Cincinnati. The loss dropped Chicago’s record to 4-6, where the Knights finished in fourth place. The Knights have secured the fourth spot in the upcoming playoffs and will travel to either Marion or Cincinnati for a first round playoff game.
Chicago, at home and looking to pull off an upset, scored first in the game on a 28 yard pass from Brandon Jewitt to Willie Tolon. The extra point was no good and Chicago led 6-0. Marion answered with a Price two yard run. The Blue Racers PAT was blocked and it was 6-6. Marion tacked on a second score on an eight yard pass from Mike Tatum to Marc Huddelston. The quarter ended with Marion up 13-6.
The second quarter did not fair much better for hosts. After recovering a fumble, Harris ran in from a yard out and the Blue Racers were up 20-6. Tyler Lorenzo added a 23 yard field goal and the halftime score was 23-6.
Marion opened up the third quarter by drawing first blood. Harris hit Brandon Williams for a 25 yard touchdown and Harris followed it up with a six yard run to paydirt. Suddenly, the Knights were behind 37-6. Chicago did score before the end of the stanza when Jewitt threw a 15 yard pass to Zontavivas Johnson. It was 37-12 after three. Harris opened the final stanza by scoring on a three yard run and a two point conversion to make the score 46-12. Chicago bounced back with a four yard touchdown run to close the gap to 46-18. Each team added another touchdown to close out the scoring.
Chicago is off until the CIFL playoffs while Marion will travel to Cincinnati to close out the sixth regular season for the league.
