May 19, 2011 - (RICHMOND)- The Richmond Raiders took advantage of the bye week by doing that they weren't able to do on the field recently; work their way back into the playoff picture. The Raiders now have a tenuous hold on the #4 seed in the Eastern Conference of the SIFL as they travel to Charlotte Friday Night to meet the Carolina Speed (1-7).
Despite a three game losing streak; all coming to first place teams the Raiders inched ahead of the Trenton Steel (5-4) for a playoff spot in the ultra competitive Eastern Conference. The Steel lost to division leading Erie and now are on the outside looking in due to their head to head loss to Richmond. However; Trenton's remaining schedule dictates that Richmond may need to win their remaining 4 regular season games to clinch a playoff berth.
Raiders QB Mike Potts regains his starting position. This will be his third start this season; all have occurred on the road. Redd Thompson remains among the leagues' most productive receivers with 58 catches including 23 touchdowns. Fellow receivers Herb Jones and Antwun Williams have also had productive seasons with both being ranked in the top 15 in the SIFL.
The Raiders resume their 2011 home schedule May 28 in a re-match against the Albany Panthers. It will be "Staycation" Night; complete with a "Battle of the Bands". Tickets can be purchased by calling the Raider Ticket Hotline at 804-780-0430 or at ticketmaster.com.
