Blizzard Update: Green Bay traveled to Sioux Falls last week and fell 57-38 to the top team in the IFL. The Storm remained undefeated and sits atop the United Conference with a 10-0 record. Missed scoring opportunities hurt the Blizzard in the loss. Place-kicker Joshua Shene generated most of the points for the Blizzard making six field goals on seven attempts to break the Blizzard single game record. Shene hit field goals of 34, 42, 22, 23, 17 and 26 yards. Blizzard wide receiver Agim Shabaj also put together a solid effort, catching nine passes for 109 yards and scoring one touchdown. Defensive back B.J. Hill had two interceptions in the end zone and also had 6 tackles.
Express Update: Last week, the Express lost 60-45 to a hot Fairbanks team. It was the eighth win in a row for the Grizzlies after starting the season 0-3. Turnovers played a big role in the game. The Express turned the ball over three times, including an interception that was returned for a touchdown. The other turnovers lead to two more touchdowns for Fairbanks. Reading quarterback Chris Malleo struggled a bit, finishing 8-21 for 58 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Malleo did contribute 37 yards and one touchdown on eight rushing attempts. Bill Winters replaced Malleo at the start of the fourth quarter and went 8-11 for 79 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Collin Taylor led the receivers with six catches for 45 yards and one touchdown. Veteran Express kicker Erik Rockhold notched his 900th point as a member of the Express on a second-quarter field goal.
Series: Green Bay leads the series 1-0. The two teams faced each other earlier this season at the Resch on April 15th. The Blizzard topped the Express 62-19.
Notes: Green Bay ranks fourth in the IFL with an average of 50 points per game and Reading ranks 15th at 38.6 points. Defensively, the Blizzard allow 36.3 points per game and the Express allow 37.9 points. Reading quarterback Chris Malleo is near the top of the IFL in rushing attempts with 105 and averages 45.2 yards per game. Blizzard linebacker Greg Jackson is fifth in the IFL with 77 tackles on the season.
Playoffs: It appears Sioux Falls is heading towards the number one seed in the United Conference. Saturday's game in Green Bay has important playoff ramifications for the number two seed and a first round bye. Reading has already clinched the Atlantic Division title and a spot in the playoffs, but still has a shot at the #2 spot. Meanwhile, Green Bay is a half game behind Chicago in the Great Lakes Division and needs a win this week to keep pace for a division title and the #2 seed.
Transactions: Blizzard defensive back Arkeith Brown and defensive lineman Jeremiah Price return after serving a one game suspension last week. Reading has two former Blizzard players on their roster; wide receiver Mike McCoy and defensive lineman Angelo Craig.
Promotion: Youth Replica Jersey Night. Aurora BayCare & WFRV TV-5 is giving away replica jerseys to the first 1,500 kids 14 & under. It is also Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame Youth Day.
