Starters Riverport to Host Race for Adam Event in Conjunction with Steelhawks
Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks invite members of the local media and general public to Starters Riverport on Thursday evening, May 19th, from 7-9 p.m. for a celebrity bartending event to support finding a cure for Type C Niemann-Pick Disease. The event will serve to raise funds for the Race for Adam Foundation. Steelhawks players, coaches, and front office staff will all be in attendance to guest bartend, greet the fans, and auction of great prizes! There will also be a special performance by the Precious Metal Dance Team. In addition, for the entire month of May, anyone who eats at any of the Starters locations and brings in the Official Steelhawks/Race for Adam flyer (which can be found on the Steelhawks and Race for Adam Website) Starters will donate 10% of the food bill directly to the organization. Starters Riverport is located at 17 W. 2nd Street in Bethlehem.
The Race for Adam Foundation, a volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to funding research projects to find a treatment and cure for Niemann-Pick Type C disease (NP-C) and related neurodegenerative disorders, began in 2005. In July of that year, Sean and Amy Recke's seven-year old son, Adam, was diagnosed with NP-C, a genetic neurodegenerative disorder for which there is no cure. Due to the family's kindness and respect for everyone, the community came together to help them; they are a family who has shown great patience, strength and hope in this time of urgency. Adam has touched the lives of everyone he has met, and continues to embrace life with a perfect smile. With the support of the community, a seed of hope has grown and continues to branch through events that will promote awareness and funding for research into NP-C and related neuro-degenerative disorders. The Foundation is named in honor of Adam Recke.
"The Steelhawks and myself personally feel blessed to have met the Recke family and Adam in particular," stated Steelhawks Executive Vice President Mike Clark. "You meet Adam for the first time, and just see the joy for life in his eyes. He has become the Steelhawks #1 fan ever since we announced our team and is considered part of our family. We hope that each and every person comes out to the race this weekend to help find a cure for Niemann-Pick."
To culminate "ADAM MONTH" the Steelhawks May 21st game against the Fairbanks Grizzlies is being deemed as "Race for Adam" Night at 7 p.m. inside the Stabler Arena. Partial proceeds from pre-registered ticket sales will go towards the foundation and many events throughout the night will go to support as well. Fans interested in getting tickets for the game simply need to call the Steelhawks ticket office at 610-282-3100, ask for Rob Wynn, and mention you wish to buy tickets in support of Race for Adam Night.
