Stampede Look to Enjoy Ride; Starting with Speed Tonight
HARRISBURG, PA (May 14, 2011) - The Harrisburg Stampede are going to savor every moment of their remaining four games and are taking a true "one game at a time" approach as their gaze is focused squarely on the Carolina Speed; their opponent tonight.
"Our goal this week versus the Speed is to gather ourselves from last week, play Stampede football and not worry about anything else outside of that. We had a great practice last night [Wednesday] and look forward to tonight's [Thursday] practice. These guys are enjoying the time together and when its time to wrap up practice, guys don't want to leave. When you are at that point you know things are going in the right direction from an organization standpoint," commented Stampede Head Coach Josh Resignalo.
The Stampede hopes to continue on the right path by notching their second win in three weeks with Coach Res at the helm. After six straight losses to open the 2011 season it looked like it was business as usual in week seven when they trailed the Erie Explosion 40-16 early in the fourth quarter. Then with a renewed enthusiasm they fired back and upended the Explosion 41-40.
They carried that enthusiasm into their game last weekend against the Trenton Steel and with three touchdown passes by new quarterback Brian Harris they held an early 20-10 lead. Then, unfortunately for the Stampede faithful, the Steel's number one ranked offense kicked into gear and Trenton topped Harrisburg 78-36.
Two recurring problems, penalties and sacks, have been an issue all season for the Stampede. In eight games they have totaled 90 penalties. They also have given up over four sacks a game. To take on the first issue Coach Resignalo, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of two tours in Iraq is instilling some of the same mental toughness in the Stampede.
To help combat the second issue Coach Res signed Dominque Bacon, a 6'6", 300 pound lineman this week. Bacon spent time with the Calgary Stampede of the Canadian Football League (CFL) participating in the CFL club's rookie camp in April.
Coach Res noted Bacon, "Will be a much welcomed addition to a struggling OL. We are building this team and work to finish this season on a strong note."
The Stampede's first stop on their four game quest to right the organization and end on that strong note Coach Res mentioned begins tonight at 7:30 PM at the Farm Show Complex Equine Arena. Good seats are still available. Visit www.harrisburgstampede.com for ticket information or purchase at the Farm Show Complex box office tonight.
