RICHMOND, VA: The Richmond Revolution (1-8) will be playing host to the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (1-8) this weekend, for a match-up of two members of the Atlantic Division. The Steelhawks were the visiting team for the first home game of the season on March 5, a last second win for the Steelhawks. The following game was played in Lehigh, an overtime win for the Revolution.
Lehigh comes into the game this weekend near the bottom of the league in both offense and defense. On offense, the Steelhawks are averaging 29.3 points per game (19th in IFL), 190.9 yards per game (17th), 127.3 passing yards (18th) and 75.7 rushing yards per game (8th). The Lehigh defense is solidly in the middle of the league as they have a few bright spots and a few really bad positions. They are currently ranked 14th in the league, giving up an average of 43.6 points per game, while giving up a total of 225.1 yards (17th). Their strength is against the pass, where they are ranked fourth in the league at only 130.3 yards per game. One benefit to the Revolution is the rushing defense where they are ranked dead last at 99.7 yards a game.
For the Revolution, the offense continues to impress the past three weeks as they put up 46 points against a top ranked Chicago defense. For the season they are ranked 18th in PPG (33.4) and near the bottom of the league in both total yards and passing yards, 21st and 22nd respectively. The running game is working well though as it is averaging 80.1 yards a game, good for sixth in the league. The offense has had no problem putting up points the last three weeks, when QB Monte Purvis took over as the starter. In the three game Purvis has completed 38 of 66 passes for 476 yards, nine touchdowns and a QB rating of 107.1. He has also carried the ball 29 times for 186 yards and five touchdowns in those three games.
Defense has been the Achilles heel for the team this year, currently ranked last in the league at over 260 yards allowed per game. The team has been unable to stop the opposition on the ground or through the air, especially in last week's loss to Chicago in which they gave up 135 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns as well as 37 yards receiving to RB Kevin Grady.
