The Indoor Football League began Week 12 with the Omaha Beef stopping by the Seattle Timberwolves looking to maintain the two-game winning streak they have begun. From the beginning of the game, the two teams were very closely matched; the Beef only outscored the Timberwolves by 4 points. However, in the second quarter the Timberwolves came back with a vengeance scoring 21 additional points to the Beef's 9 additional points. After halftime, the Timberwolves looked to increased their lead to secure a win by earning 14 more points compared to the 6 points earned by the Beef. Entering the final quarter of the game, the Timberwolves were ahead 45-29. The Beef realized that in order to defeat the Timberwolves, they must play hard and accurate, which they did earning 2 more touchdowns than the Timberwolves; however, the effort of the Beef was not enough. The Seattle Timberwolves defeated the Omaha Beef, 52-50.
The first game of Saturday evening was between the La Crosse Spartans and the Green Bay Blizzard. The first half of the game was all about the Green Bay Blizzard; the Blizzard defense held the Spartans scoreless the entire first half while the offense racked up 17 points. The Blizzard defense was able to exert their will on the Spartans: creating trouble for the quarterback with 3 sacks, picking up the one fumble of the game, and getting an interception. Even though the Spartans had trouble in the first half, they were able to get productivity from their rushers with 1 rushing touchdown and 137 rushing yards compared to the 45 rushing yards of the Blizzard. Though the Spartans were able to pick up their game in the second half, the Blizzard defense disrupted the Spartan offense too much for recovery, and the Blizzard offense took advantage of the increase time on the field to defeat the La Crosse Spartans, 44-21, Green Bay Blizzard.
The Wyoming Cavalry visited the Wenatchee Valley Venom on Saturday evening. The Wyoming Cavalry started off strong, not allowing the Venom to score in the first quarter and earning 14 points for themselves. The strong start in the first quarter was almost neutralized by the productivity of the Venom in the second quarter outscoring the Cavalry 16-7; however, the Cavalry was still on top going into halftime. Starting the third quarter, the Venom knew that they had to pick up their game in order to overcome their first half performance. Both the Venom offense and defense picked it up in the second half, scoring 25 more points, and only allowing the Cavalry to score 15 additional points. The Wenatchee Valley Venom's second half performance was strong enough to overcome the Wyoming Cavalry, closing out the game with a score of 41-36, Wenatchee Valley Venom.
The next game of Week 12 was between the Chicago Slaughter and the Richmond Revolution. These two teams were closely matched up throughout the entire game. The greatest point differential was 2 points in the second quarter. Though the Slaughter had 244 total yards of offense compared to the 153 total yards of offense for the Revolution, the Revolution was still able to remain competitive the entire game. Where the Revolution found productivity in passing with 4 touchdowns, the Slaughter thrive in rushing with 6 rushing touchdowns. What gave the Chicago Slaughter the edge was the delivery of the Slaughter defense. The Slaughter defense caused problems for the Revolution's quarterback by sacking him three times in the game. Even though the teams were neck-and-neck throughout the entire game, the Chicago Slaughter was able to maintain the 3 point lead to defeat the Richmond Revolution, 49-46.
The only undefeated team remaining in the Indoor Football League, the Sioux Falls Storm, hosted the Bloomington Extreme on Saturday evening. The first quarter started out fairly slow of the two teams, with the score at 7-3, Storm. The second quarter was a different story both teams scored in the double digits; however, the Storm outscored the Extreme by 12 points; going into halftime the Storm had a 16 point advantage over the Extreme. Though the Extreme was down going into the third quarter, there was still plenty of time for the Extreme to come back to be the first team to defeat the Storm in 2011. The Storm would not allow the Extreme to overcome the deficit set in place in the first half. In both the third and fourth quarter, the Storm outscored the Extreme by 8 points and closing out the game with another win, 60-28.
Saturday evening the Tri-Cities Fever visited the Fairbanks Grizzlies looking to show that they are at the top of the Pacific Division of the Intense Conference. Starting in the first quarter, the Grizzlies showed that they looked to dominate the game. By halftime the Grizzlies outscored the Fever 38-14. The Grizzlies were able to interrupt the majority of the offensive play of the Fever. The Grizzlies took advantage of 2 fumbles, 4 sacks, and the ability to diversify their offensive play: having 3 rushing touchdowns and 3 passing touchdowns. Unfortunately for the Fever, they were not able to overcome the Grizzlies in the second half of the game either. The Fairbanks Grizzlies defeated the Tri-Cities Fever, 58-20.
The Nebraska Danger visited the Allen Wranglers on Saturday evening looking for their fourth win of the season. The game started off slowly for both the Danger and Wranglers; however, in the second quarter the Wranglers were able to set themselves apart from the Danger, by doubling their score and having the lead into halftime, 35-17. Again, the two teams had a slow start in the beginning of the second half; however, the Wranglers were able to maintain the lead that they established in the first half. The Danger only scored 6 points in the second half, which was not enough to overcome the point differential; the Allen Wranglers defeated the Nebraska Danger, 49-23.
The Reading Express stopped by the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks on Saturday evening. At the beginning of the game, both the Express and Steelhawks defense found great productivity, leaving both teams within competitive range, 10-7, Express. The second quarter proved to be for the Express, only allowing the Steelhawks to score 7 more points, while they earned 21 more points and earning the lead going into halftime. The momentum remained with the Express starting the third quarter. The Express defense held the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks scoreless for the entire second half, while the Reading Express offense was able to score 21 points in the third quarter; however, 0 in the fourth as well. The Reading Express defense helped the Express defeat the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, 51-14.
The Arizona Adrenaline played host to the Roughnecks this past weekend in a must win situation for the Adrenaline. The Adrenaline now 0-10 would have their work cut out for them out of the gates as they would match up against a tough offense. Led by Arkelon Hall the Roughnecks would total up 82 points to the Adrenalines 27. This conclusion would give West Texas the outright lead in the division and their third win in a row.
The Wichita Wild would come into week 12 with a purpose coming off of a big win against Bloomington, and looking to tally up their third win for the season. As opposed to their last weeks back and forth battle this match up would weigh a little more in the Wild's favor. This weekend, the Brawlers would take on a newly enthused Wild team that came out flying at kickoff. The Wild continued their intensity throughout the entire game and would win in a dominating fashion 51-14.
