Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks return to Richmond, Virginia to take on the Revolution at the site of the team's lone victory this season. The Revolution, uniquely play indoor football, outdoors while their brand new arena at the SportsQuest Complex is being built. The last time the Steelhawks traveled to Richmond, the team was able to come back from down four points with 1.2 seconds remaining in the game to defeat the Revolution courtesy of a 17 yard touchdown pass from AJ Roque to Irani DeAraujo.
The Revolution have had a bit of a disappointing season on the field, much like the Steelhawks. However, they have seemed to improve week after week including a thrilling game against 7-3 Chicago last weekend in which they fell late by a score of 49-46. In that game Quarterback Monte Purvis threw for 126 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 29 yards and a score. The Steelhawks will have to key on Purvis who is gifted both with his arm and with his legs.
The Steelhawks have lost many close battles since winning in Richmond on March 5th including four games decided in the final minute. They hope the success they had last time in Richmond can be duplicated. With the weather looking iffy and their being a 60% chance of showers on Saturday, expect the Steelhawks to use the running game with Isaiah Grier, Ryan Leafey, and Dom Stewart to their advantage.
"As of right now the weather doesn't look like it is going to cooperate with us for this game," stated Steelhawks Head Coach Rich Britt. "With this unique situation of playing outdoor indoor football the weather can definitely come into factor. Our running game will become more of a focus if it happens to rain."
Kickoff for the game is slated for 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m. Fans coming to cheer on the Steelhawks are urged to wear their black and Vegas gold in support! The team return home Saturday, May 21st for a contest against the Fairbanks, Alaska Grizzlies at 7 p.m. The game, deemed Race For Adam Night, will serve as a fundraiser for the Race for Adam. The Race for Adam Foundation, a volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to funding research projects to find a treatment and cure for Niemann-Pick Type C disease (NP-C) and related neurodegenerative disorders, began in 2005. In July of that year, Sean and Amy Recke's seven-year old son, Adam, was diagnosed with NP-C, a genetic neurodegenerative disorder for which there is no cure. Due to the family's kindness and respect for everyone, the community came together to help them; they are a family who has shown great patience, strength and hope in this time of urgency. Adam has touched the lives of everyone he has met, and continues to embrace life with a perfect smile. With the support of the community, a seed of hope has grown and continues to branch through events that will promote awareness and funding for research into NP-C and related neuro-degenerative disorders. The Foundation is named in honor of Adam Recke.
