Amarillo, TX 5/09/11 - The Amarillo Venom have announced current Offensive Coordinator and former starting Quarterback Julian Reese as their Interim Head Coach for the remainder of the 2011 season.
"Julian has earned this opportunity," said Joe Morgado, the Venom's General Manager. "He is a class-act and will represent our organization well."
Coach Reese began his coaching career at Indiana State University in 2003 where he coached receivers. Reese moved to Amarillo in 2004 to play for the Amarillo team formerly known as the Amarillo Dusters and lead them to an Intense Football League championship in 2004 as the starting quarterback. Reese holds several Amarillo passing and rushing records, but was forced to join the Venom coaching staff after a rotator-cuff injury and a setback during rehabilitation following the surgery. Coach Reese, who is in his first year coaching the Venom, also coaches at Austin Middle School in Amarillo and has been there since 2008.
"Julian is a winner and knows how to win in this league," said Morgado. "He has the trust of the guys in the locker room and is well-respected by our organization and our fans."
Reese's first test as Interim Head Coach will be the Bricktown Brawlers who the Venom hosts Saturday, May 14th. The game is the Venom's "Proud to be an American-Salute to Our Troops Night". All military personnel will be admitted free of charge with their military ID and all other tickets will cost just $14.
"Coach Reese needs the support of our fans and this community," said Morgado. "Let's show him we are behind him by filling up the Civic Center this Saturday night."
Fans needing tickets can stop by the Venom's office, located at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo, or call (806)350-7277. Fans can also purchase tickets online at www.panhandletickets.com, by stopping by any United Supermarkets location, or the day of the game at the Amarillo Civic Center box office.
