Amarillo, TX - It was a tale of two halves as the Amarillo Venom lost to the Allen Wranglers 44-20 Saturday night at Coors Light Field.
The Venom took the lead early as Derek Rasmussen completed a 33-yard touchdown pass to DuVaughn Flagler. After a missed extra point it was the Venom 6 the Wranglers 0 with 8:00 to go in the first quarter.
The Wranglers would take their first lead of the game on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Kewan Dewberry to Bobby Chase on their following offensive possession, but the Venom would answer right back.
Following the Dewberry-Chase touchdown, new Venom addition Marcus Robinson would run it in from 4-yards out to give the Venom the 13-7 lead with 2:13 to go in the 1st quarter.
The Wranglers would score 13 unanswered points before Robinson would run in another touchdown, this time from 3-yards out making the score 20-20 midway through the 2nd quarter. The Wranglers would tack on a field goal before the half, giving them the 23-20 lead at the break.
The Venom offense would be inefficient in the second half under Ken Johnson Jr., who replaced an injured Rasmussen late in the second quarter. The Wranglers would score 21 unanswered second-half points to give them the victory 44-20.
