Blizzard Update: After an 1,800 mile road trip last week to the state of Washington that resulted in a dominating 60-6 win over Wenatchee Valley, Green Bay will make the short trip to Chicago.
The Blizzard extended its impressive winning streak to six games, and remains a half game behind division leader Bloomington. In Wenatchee, the Blizzard put together an all-around team performance. Quarterback Jameel Sewell got the start over Willie Copeland and did not disappoint. Sewell led the Blizzard attack, completing 27 of 45 passes for 299 yards and five touchdowns for the game. He also rushed for two touchdowns. Blizzard wide receiver Chris Bell caught nine passes for 118 yards and scored two touchdowns, while wide receiver Lonnie Sanders caught nine passes for 76 yards and scored three touchdowns. The Green Bay defense held the Venom to six points and forced five turnovers. Blizzard defensive backs Arkeith Brown, Josh Jones and B.J. Hill collected an interception, while linebacker Aaron Bryant added another.
Slaughter Update: Last week, Chicago had to make a longer road trip than the Blizzard as they headed to Fairbanks, Alaska to face the surging Grizzlies. The Grizzlies outlasted the Slaughter 40-35 for their fifth win in a row. Slaughter quarterback Ben Sankey completed 23 of 44 passes for 224 yards with 4 TD passes and 1 interception. Wide receiver Shatone Powers had 5 receptions for 101 yards with 1 TD.
Series: Chicago leads the series 3-1. All four games took place during the 2010 season. The last meeting between the two teams was in the first round of the 2010 IFL playoffs. The Slaughter defeated the Central North Division Champion Blizzard 46-39. Green Bay and Chicago both joined the IFL in 2010.
Notes: The Defense that plays the best might have the edge in this game, as both offenses rank near the top of the IFL in points scored per game (Blizzard: 54.1, Slaughter: 48.3). Blizzard defensive back Arkeith Brown collected his IFL leading 8th interception last week. Slaughter wide receiver Shantone Powers leads the IFL in all-purpose yards with 1,071 and linebacker Lenny Radtke leads the IFL in tackles with 65.
