Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks hit the road, after three consecutive home contests, this weekend as they head north to take on the La Crosse Spartans in the state of Wisconsin. The Steelhawks are coming off a tough string of losses, falling late in games, and currently sit at 1-6. Five of the teams seven games this season have come down to the final minute of the contest, however the team is o1-4 in those games.
The Spartans enter the game at 3-5, which puts them in last place in the Great Lakes Division. In their last contest, the Spartans fell to the division leading Bloomington Extreme by a score of 71-26. The team is led on offense by Quarterback Buddy Rivera and Wide Receiver Christopher Headd who both bring big play ability to a potent attack. Defensively the Spartans are anchored by Defensive lineman X'zavie Jackson who is among the league leaders in sacks half way through the IFL season.
The Steelhawks are looking to get over their current five game slide and get back into the playoff race as they start the second half of the season. It will all start with the long trip north. Expect a steady dose of Running back Isaiah Grier in this contest, who after coming back from injury last week is fifth in the league in rushing yards despite playing in 2 ½ games less than anyone else ahead of him in the rankings. Last week Grier found the endzone three times on his way to 70 rushing yards on 16 carries.
"It's the second half of the season and we intend on turning this around," stated Steelhawks Head Coach Rich Britt. "We need to get healthy, and continue to play as a team. We have made some personnel decisions in the last week, and we feel these additional players can help us make a run at a playoff seed. This season is NOT over."
