Amarillo Venom Vs. West Texas Roughnecks Game Preview
Amarillo, TX 4/22/11 - The Amarillo Venom is back at home this week as they host divisional foe West Texas at Coors Light Field Saturday, April 23rd. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m.
The West Texas Roughnecks (5-2) are coming off of a 39-16 home win against the Omaha Beef while the Amarillo Venom is coming off of a road loss at the hands of the Wichita Wild 56-32.
Following the teams loss to the Wild, the Venom made some drastic roster changes in an attempt to salvage their season. Both quarterbacks, X'Zavier Bloodsaw and Andrew Carcich, as well as running back Landrick Brody, receiver Ross Roby, and defensive back Atononio Dishman were released earlier in the week.
"We had to do everything in our power to get this thing going in the right direction", said Joe Morgado, the Venom's General Manager.
New additions to the team include Ken Johnson Jr. and Derek Rasmussen, two guys the Venom has brought in to play quarterback.
"The reality of it is our quarterback play has been bad this season and the guys that were here didn't take care of the football," said Rodney Blackshear, the Venom's Head Coach. "When your quarterbacks are turning it over three times a game you're not going to win."
Coach Blackshear said he has not yet named a starter at quarterback and it will be a game time decision.
The Venom has also brought in Rickey McKinley, who played at Angelo State University, to strengthen the secondary.
"McKinley will be a nice addition to the secondary and will bring some consistency to a unit that has been somewhat inconsistent," said Coach Blackshear.
The AMARILLO VENOM is a proud member of the Indoor Football League.
