Marion vs Port Huron
The second half of the season opened the way the first half of the season end for Marion and Port Huron as the Blue Racers continued their winning ways and the Predators headed the opposite direction.
Marion struggled early in the game before exploding in the fourth quarter to win 47-15. The Blue Racers improved to 5-1 on the season while the Predators dropped to 2-4, losing three straight including two straight at home.
Marion opened the scoring with a touchdown when Josh Harris passed to Mike Tatum from 29 yards out. They completed a two-point conversion with 4:45 in the first quarter and led 8-0. That is how the score stayed after one period. In the second stanza, Port Huron took control scoring midway through the quarter when Calvin Toliver completed a 14-yard pass to Robert Height. The two-point conversion failed. With 37 seconds to play before half, the home team connected on a 27 yard field goal by Chris Tatti to give the Predators a 9-8 lead. With one second left before intermission, Tyler Lorenz connected on a 36 yard field for the Blue Racers and they led 11-9 at half.
In the third quarter, Marion posted the lone score when Harris hit Brandon Williams on 31 yard pass. The extra point was good and Marion led 18-9. Marion opened the fourth quarter with an 18 yard run by Tatum. Port Huron scored a minute later when Ruben Gay ran in from three yards out. But that was as close as Port Huron would get. The Blue Racers added three more scores to win 47-15.
Marion was led by Harris, who completed seven of 18 passes for 113 yards and three touchdowns and one interception. Harris led the team in rushing with 29 yards on two carries and one touchdown. On defense, Lorenzo Best had four unassisted tackles and two assisted tackles.
Port Huron was led at quarterback by Mike Akrawi, who was four of 14 for 39 yards. Gay was their top rusher with 30 yards on 11 attempts. Their top tackler was Jeremiah McLauren who had three unassited tackles and one assisted tackles.
Both teams are off next week.
Indianapolis vs Chicago
For the second straight week, the Enforcers and Knights met on the field. Due to a scheduling issue with the Chicago venue change, this game replaced the scheduled May 28th game.
Chicago improved to 3-1 on the season with a 52-6 win at Victory Sports Complex in Loves Park, Illinois. Chicago scored first on a 2 yard touchdown run by M Williams and ended the first quarter with a 6-0 lead.
The Knights would take control of the game in the second extending their lead to 20-0 with two Julie Harshbarger field goals, one from 23 yards and one from 20 yards, and a 14 yard touchdown pass to Justin Openga from Ron Ricciardi.
Indianapolis would get on the board with a DeMarcus Simons 1 yard touchdown run but Chicago would add a James Cichon 1 yard touchdown run and another field goal, this time from 17 yards, to take a 29-6 lead into halftime.
Chicago would score with just over six minutes left in the third quarter on a Ricciardi touchdown pass to Zontavius Johnson and would later add a safety to lead 38-6 going into the fourth quarter.
The scoring would end with two fourth quarter touchdowns by the Knights. The first was a 38 yard touchdown pass to Openga from Brandon Jewett and a Mike Williams 11 yard run.
Chicago was led by Ricciardi who completed eight of 18 pass for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Justin Openga had 52 yards receiving and a touchdown and Mike Williams carried the ball nine times for 47 yards and two scores. On defense, Kurt James had 5.5 tackles and an interception.
For Indianapolis, DeMarcus Simons was just seven of 22 for 43 yards passing and scored the lone touchdown on the ground while rushing for 19 yards on nine carries. Defensively, Walters led the way with 4.5 tackles, one for a loss, a forced fumble and fumble recovery.
Indianapolis is off next week. Chicago will host Dayton at Victory Sports Complex in Love's Park, Illinois on Friday night.
