It is hard to win on the road in the SIFL. Spot your opponent a 21 point lead and it is usually makes for a long bus ride home. The Richmond Raiders used a strong 2nd & 3rd quarter offensive & defensive barrage to hand the home standing Harrisburg Stampede a 59-41 defeat.
Aaron Alexander threw for 2 TDs and ran for 3 more as the Raiders rode a balanced offense and opportunistic defense to rally and tie the score at 24 as the first half expired. A Brent Trice 2nd quarter interception and an increasingly fierce pass rush limited Harrisburg to one field goal in the second quarter.
The Raiders defensive dominance continued in the third quarter as the Stampede was limited to an opening kickoff UNO as the Raiders rolled up 15 unanswered points behind the passing of Aaron Alexander and the running of fullback Brandon Isaiah.
Alexander threw for 211 yards, completing 22 of 32 passes. He threw for 2 touchdowns; both to Antwun Williams (8 catches 56 yards). The Raiders amassed 260 yards with their 47 offensive plays. Herb Jones lead all receivers with 94 yards on 9 catches. Brandon Isaiah rushed for 34 yards on 9 carries including touchdown runs of 5, 4 & 12 yards. The Raider defense amassed 9 sacks led by Michael Woodhouse's 3.5. Noland Burchette registered two sacka and a blocked field goal that set up a 4th quarter Raider touchdown.
The Richmond Raiders continue their 2011 SIFL schedule with a home game with the Alabama Hammers April 9 at 7 pm. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Raider Ticket Hotline at 804-780-0430 or at ticketmaster.com.
