Marion defeated Dayton 34-13 in an early, key intrastate game to improve to 2-1 overall while dropping Dayton to 1-2 on the season. The win moves the Blue Racers to second place, a full game behind first place Cincinnati. The Silverbacks fell two games out of first place.
The Blue Racers, who have won both games this season at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, led 13-7 after the first quarter over the visiting Silverbacks. In the second quarter, Marion posted a shut out outscoring Dayton 18-0 to take a 31-7.
In the third quarter, Marion tacked on a field goal to stretch their lead to 34-7. In the final stanza, the Silverbacks tacked on a touchdown but missed the PAT.
Next week, Dayton is home to host the defending CIFL champions and undefeated first place Cincinnati Commandos at Hara Arena. Meanwhile, Marion stays home to host Indianapolis at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
