Blizzard Defeat Danger for Third Consecutive Victory
The Green Bay Blizzard won their third consecutive game Sunday afternoon when they defeated the Nebraska Danger 58-48 in Grand Island, Neb.
Green Bay (3-1) led for much of the game, but the Danger (1-2) rallied in the fourth quarter to erase a 37-14 Blizzard lead.
Down 38-37 with 1:25 remaining in the fourth quarter, Green Bay received a pair of key special teams plays to regain the lead and ensure a Blizzard victory. Return specialist B.J. Hill helped the Blizzard regain the lead when he scored a 56-yard touchdown on a Danger kickoff. Shortly after Hill's touchdown return, Blizzard kicker Joshua Shene sealed the victory when he made a 53-yard field goal.
The Blizzard received a tremendous offensive effort in the victory from quarterback Jameel Sewell, who got his first start at the position this year.
Sewell got the offense on the scoreboard on the teams first drive when he ran untouched, straight up the middle, on a keeper for a 19-yard touchdown to give the Blizzard a 6-0 lead.
The Blizzard were only able to manage a 26-yard field goal by Shene the rest of the half and led 9-8 after two quarters of play.
Both teams struggled to score in the first half with a number of penalties being enforced and with strong defense.
Green Bay opened the third quarter with another touchdown when Sewell scored on a 9-yard run. On the play, Sewell evaded the rush, bouncing the play out to the right and cut back to the middle on his way into the end zone.
Following the touchdown, the Blizzard defense blocked a 55-yard field goal attempt by the Danger.
Four plays later, Sewell scored his third rushing touchdown of the afternoon when he ran straight up the middle from three yards out to extend the lead to 23-8.
The Danger responded with a 30-yard drive, capped off by a 5-yard touchdown run by Anthony Harding to cut the lead to 23-14.
Green Bay pushed the lead to 30-14 when Sewell found Blizzard wide receiver Lonnie Sanders on a 9-yard pass with 3:49 remaining in the third quarter.
After the Blizzard defense forced the Danger into a turnover on downs, Sewell scrambled out of the pocket and found wide receiver Aaron Rhea wide open for a 6-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 37-14.
For the game, Sewell scored five total touchdowns, three rushing and two passing.
Defensively, cornerback Arkeith Brown intercepted two passes, both of which came in the fourth quarter. None was bigger then the first, which came on fourth down in the endzone and sealed the victory, with the Danger down 45-38. Brown leads the IFL with seven interceptions.
