HARRISBURG, PA (March 25, 2011) - Baseball Hall of Famer Yogi Berra once said, "Baseball is ninety percent mental and the other half is physical."
After a season opener which saw the Harrisburg Stampede commit eight penalties, give up six sacks, and throw three interceptions Stampede General Manager and Head Coach Nowotarski knows exactly what Berra was talking about.
When asked about this weekend's upcoming match-up against the Fayetteville Force, Nowotarski commented, "We are certainly looking to improve in all phases of the game and eliminate the mental mistakes."
When the Stampede face the Force this Sunday at 4:00 PM at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina they will be looking for their first win of the season and also to gain some momentum as they start a stretch of three of four games on the road.
After Fayetteville, the Stampede return home to the Equine Arena for a game against the Richmond Raiders on April 2nd before heading to Charlotte to take on the Carolina Speed on April 8th and then up to Erie to battle the Explosion on April 15th.
In addition to the focus on eliminating mental mistakes Coach Nowotarski has also been fine tuning the Stampede line-up. Two key players will be returning to the Stampede roster after missing the season opener: Mark Stout, a 6'7", 320 pound offensive lineman and defensive lineman Fearon Wright, a former Minnesota Viking.
Stout, who is now in his tenth season of professional football, has been synonymous with winning in his career. In his nine previous seasons of professional football he has made the playoffs eight times.
Stout also has appeared in five straight conference championship games, has been in three of the last four league title games, has won two straight league championships, and has three national titles under his belt. Last season he anchored a Baltimore offensive line which helped lead the Mariners to an undefeated (16-0) national championship season.
The Stampede has also fortified the defensive line with the addition of Fearon Wright to the roster. Wright signed as a free-agent with the Minnesota Vikings and played in the first seven games of the 2001 season before being injured.
He returned to professional football in 2008 with the Carolina Speed and in 2009 and 2010 he played for the Baltimore Mariners. Following the 2010 season he was named to the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) All-Pro Team with first-team honors. In just over three professional seasons he has totaled 60 tackles, 19.5 tackles for a loss, and 17 sacks.
The Stampede game versus the Fayetteville Force may be heard on The Stampede Network at www.ustream.tv/channel/harrisburg-stampede-tv. Kickoff is slated for Sunday, March 27th at 4:00 PM.
