Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Venom (0-3) are on the road this week as they travel to Odessa to take on the West Texas Rough Necks (2-1) in a Lonestar Division matchup.
"We are very disappointed with the way the season has started," said Joe Morgado, the Venom's General Manager, "but we have seen improvements in each game. It is crucial for us to get a win against the West Texas Rough Necks."
The Venom is coming off of a 37-33 loss to the Wyoming Cavalry, a game where they trailed by as many as 14 points. At the half the Venom were down 20-6, but they battled back and had the lead 33-30 with 45 seconds to go. A late touchdown pass by the Cavalry would give them the lead and the victory.
"Not making excuses, but it was nice to have a full week of preparation for tonight's ballgame," said Rodney Blackshear, the Venom's Head Coach. "After Bricktown, we had four days to prepare for Wyoming. Whenever you have a shortened week like that, it messes up guys' routines."
The West Texas Rough Necks are coming off of a 31-27 loss at the hands of the Bricktown Brawlers, but they still have a half game lead in the Lonestar Division. There is an extra importance in winning divisional games according to Coach Blackshear.
"Like I said before the Bricktown game, every game is important but you have to win your divisional matchups," said Coach Blackshear. "We play everyone in our division three times. If we are able to win our divisional games, we will make the playoffs."
The Venom returns home to take on the Allen Wranglers April 2nd. Venom tickets can be purchased through the Amarillo Venom offices, located at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo, by calling 806-350-7277, stopping by any United Supermarket location, or by going to www.panhandletickets.com .
The Venom is offering a free Candy Coburn concert after the April 2nd game against the Allen Wranglers. The game is the Venom's breast cancer awareness game and all female fans that wear pink to the game will get in free.
