Port Huron vs. Dayton
Port Huron used its bye week to regroup and defeat Dayton 61-34 at McMorran Arena. The Predators ran their home record to 2-0 this season and 2-1 overall. Dayton, who also is coming off a bye week, dropped its first game of the season.
The Predators and Silverbacks played an even first quarter. Both teams scored two touchdowns but missed extra points and ended the quarter in 13-13 stalemate. The Predators scored often in the second stanza. The home team posted 23 points while giving up one touchdown and went into halftime with a 36-20 lead.
Port Huron took control in the third quarter as well. The Predators tacked on three scores and held the visitors to a lone score increasing the lead after three periods to 54-28.
The final stanza would belong to the host outscoring the visitors 7-6 to win going away 61-34.
Dayton will be on the road again next week when they travel to instate rival Marion. Both teams will enter the game with identical 1-1 records. Port Huron will have the week off.
Indianapolis vs. Cincinnati
The defending CIFL champions scored early and often at home in pounding visiting Indianapolis 82-2. The victory improves the first place Commandos record to 3-0 and drops the Enforcers to 0-3, who came off a bye week.
Cincinnati scored in the first 10 seconds of the game on 25 yard pass from Tyler Sheehan to Moe Lee. The Commandos added three more touchdowns to lead 26-0 after one quarter. In the second period, Cincinnati added three more touchdowns, while giving up a blocked extra point return to Indianapolis for their only score of the game. The halftime score was 46-2. In the second half, Cincinnati outscored Indianapolis 36 to 0 to win the game 82-2.
For the game, Commandos quarterback Sheehan completed 21 of 32 passes for 289 yards and eight touchdowns, along with two interceptions. His top receiver was Lee with six receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns. The top defender for Cincinnati was Fabian Conner with three unassisted tackles, one assisted tackle, one interception and PBU.
The Enforcers were led by quarterback Mike Whitaker, who completed seven of 24 passes for 66 yards. Their top kickoff returner was Ricky Emery, who eight returns for 122 yards. The Enforcers were led defensively by Karl Jones who had three unassisted tackles, three assisted tackles and one pass breakup.
Cincinnati and Indianapolis both have bye weeks next week. The week off gives Indianapolis a chance to regroup after a rough outing. For Cincinnati, it may cool off their impressive start.
