Amarillo, TX 3/18/11 - The Amarillo Venom (0-2) host the Wyoming Cavalry (0-1) on Coors Light Field tonight at the Amarillo Civic Center.
"We are glad to be back at home," said Rodney Blackshear, Head Coach of the Amarillo Venom. "We played in two tough places on the road to begin the season and are ready to play in front of our fans. We have some of the best fans in the IFL that are going to make it tough on the Wyoming Cavalry."
The Venom opened the 2011 IFL season with two road games separated by a bye week. They lost their season opener in Colorado to the Ice 37-26 and are coming off a 29-20 loss to the Bricktown Brawlers. The Venom showed their potential in both games, but was unable to play with the consistency needed to win in the IFL.
"There were definitely bright spots in both games," said Coach Blackshear. "Against Colorado we played well early, but didn't finish the game the way we needed to. Against Bricktown, we fell behind and made a push to come back but just ran out of time. As soon as we are able to be consistent and put a full four quarters together this team will be fine."
The Wyoming Cavalry are coming off of a bye week and haven't played since they lost to the Colorado Ice 39-30 on March 6th in their IFL debut. The Cavalry struggled early in the ball game and trailed the Ice 23-3 at the half. They would pull within three points 33-30 with 1:42 to play in the game, but that is as close as they would get.
The Venom hit the road next week to take on the West Texas Roughnecks before returning home to take on the Allen Wranglers April 2nd. Venom tickets can be purchased through the Amarillo Venom offices, located at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo, by calling 806-350-7277, stopping by any United Supermarket location, or by going to www.panhandletickets.com .
The AMARILLO VENOM is a proud member of the Indoor Football League.
