ALBANY, Georgia – The Albany Panthers are excited to announce that training camp for the 2011 Southern Indoor Football League season opened on Friday, February 26th at the team's headquarters in Albany, Georgia. The Panthers season opener will be Saturday, March 19th when they host the Louisiana Swashbucklers at the Albany James H Gray Civic Center.
Players reported on February 26th and camp will continue through Friday, March 11th. The two-week schedule features nine practice sessions and one scrimmage with the semi-pro team Georgia Firebirds on Friday, March 11th at 6 p.m. this scrimmage will be open and free to the public at the Albany Civic Center.
"Our players and our staff are eager to get started," Panthers Head Coach LUCIOUS DAVIS said. "We have one goal and that's to bring a championship to the city of Albany and its fans. We can't wait to begin working to accomplish that goal."
Coach Davis' roster is comprised of 11 players from last year's team, additional players with AFL experience, veterans of various professional leagues and a mix of rookies. Highlighting the returning players are All-SIFL DB Demetrie McCray and WR John Harris, one of the leaders of the playoff squad from the Panthers' inaugural season in 2010.
