Dayton vs. Indianapolis
The Dayton Silverbacks opened the season at home with a convincing victory over the Indianapolis Enforcers 69-19. The Silverbacks move to 1-0 on the young season. Indianapolis dropped to 0-2 on the young season, after suffering an opening season loss in Port Huron in week one. Game stats were not immediately available for this game.
Indianapolis and Dayton will both have bye weeks next week.
Cincinnati vs. Chicago
Cincinnati opened up defense of its 2010 CIFL Championship with a convincing 53-7 victory over Chicago. Cincinnati unveiled its championship banner at The Gardens tonight and gave its fans a memorable evening.
Cincinnati dominated the game from start to finish jumping out to 21-0 lead and 27-7 halftime lead. Cincinnati scored just once in the third quarter before adding three more scores in the final stanza.
Cincinnati was led by two quarterbacks. Starting quarterback Tyler Sheehan was 11 of 20 for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Fellow quarterback and 2010 CIFL MVP Ben Mauk was nine of 15 for 102 yards and four touchdowns. The passing was spread around to seven receivers. The top receiver was Keynes Mincy with six receptions for 64 yards and two touchdowns. Other receivers include Brandon Boehm wo had three catches for 50 yards; George Murray had four receptions for 44 yards; and Greg Moore had two catches for 35 yards. The leading rusher was Greg Moore with 24 yards on nine carries.
For the Knights, quarterback Ron Ricciardi was five of 13 for 43 yards and one touchdown. That touchdown pass was caught by Rick Larhman, who was also the top receiver with two catches for 29 yards. Chicago’s top rusher was Ryan Robinson with 20 yards on 10 attempts.
Cincinnati will travel to Marion next week, Chicago has a bye.
Port Huron vs. Marion
Marion opened the season with an exciting victory over Port Huron 44-37 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The win moves Marion to 1-0 on the young season. Port Huron, which won easily a week ago at home against Indianapolis (69-13), gave up a late touchdown to fall on the road.
Marion entered the final stanza trailing 37-23. In the fourth quarter, Marion started its comeback by scoring a touchdown with 10:31 left in the game. Mike Tatum caught a nine yard pass from Josh Harris and Tyler Lorenz added the extra point. Port Huron’s lead was cut to 37-30. With 3:27 left in the game, Harris ran in from three yards out, the extra point was good again, and the game was tied. The final score of the game came on an eight yard run by Harris with 27 seconds to play. Again, the extra point was good. Port Huron quarterback Jim Roth was intercepted by Bryan Williams as time expired to secure the victory.
For the game, the Blue Racers were led on offense by Harris, who ran the ball 11 times for 48 yards and scored two touchdowns. Harris also completed seven of 12 passes for four touchdowns and an interception. Mike Tatum was Harris’s top receiver with four catches for 26 yards.
Port Huron was led on offense by quarterback Jim Roth, who was eight of 23 passing for 74 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Roth’s top receiver was 2007 CIFL MVP Robert Height with four catches for 41 yards and one touchdown. The Predators were led in rushing by Levi Raines with 17 carriers for 127 yards and three touchdowns.
Marion scored first to take a 7-0 lead. The Predators stuck back to make it 7-6. Midway through the second quarter, the scored was tied at 13. At halftime, Port Huron trailed 20-19. Port Huron started the three quarter by scoring twice to take a commanding 31-20 lead and stretched the lead to 37-23 at the end of the third stanza. The fourth quarter belonged to the hosts.
Marion will next play host to the Cincinnati Commandos while the Predators have the week off.
