Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks travel down to Richmond, Virginia this weekend for a Saturday battle with the Richmond Revolution at 5 p.m. The game marks a first for the Revolution who will open up their home schedule with a slightly different dynamic then the rest of the league. The Rev's will be playing the 2011 season outside as their new arena is being built, however all indoor rules will apply. Dasher walls will be put up, the field will still be 50 yards long, and standard indoor goal post will be erected. Both teams look to rebound from opening night losses. The Steelhawks fell to division rival Reading 33-26 while the Revolution were beat by the Bloomington Extreme 44-6.
Both teams will get to know each other very well in 2011 as they play each other a total of four times. Quarterback AJ Roque will look to continue his early season passing success and add to the four touchdown passes he threw against the Express. His favorite target early on seems to be Wide Receiver Irani DeAraujo Jr. who hauled in two scores in his first game with the Steelhawks. Defensively, the linemen have shown signs of dominance early. Ends Chad Clark and Brian Smith, anchored at tackle by Chris Medina seek to bring down the Quarterback on every passing play.
"This is a big divisional game," stated Steelhawks Head Coach Rich Britt. "Not only do we want to come back to the Valley with our first win in team history, but we also don't want to fall into a hole within the Atlantic. The playing outside element will add a unique wrinkle to the game, but these guys are ready to play in any conditions."
Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. Fans coming to cheer on the Steelhawks are urged to wear their black and Vegas gold in support!
