Venom Players Share Special Teams Player of the Week Honors
Amarillo, TX 3/2/11 - Cashmin Thomas and Donta Bright were named co-special teams players of the week by the Indoor Football League following their performances against the Colorado Ice in Week 1.
Both Thomas and Bright returned kickoffs for touchdowns in Friday night's game against the Ice. Thomas' came on the opening kickoff of the second half with the scored tied 14-14. He fielded the ball at the two-yard line and ran up the left side 48-yards for the touchdown to give the Venom the lead. After an Ice Field goal, Colorado kicker Rocky Stevens kicked a low, line drive kick in an attempt to keep the ball away from Thomas. Bright fielded the ball at the 14-yard line against the wall and took it straight up the left side for the 36-yard touchdown. Thomas finished the game with 68-yards on three returns and a touchdown while Bright finished with 51-yards on two returns and a touchdown.
"It's an honor for those guys to be named special teams players of the week," said General Manager Joe Morgado. "They are really exciting to watch and deserve the recognition, but those are individual awards. We need to remain focused on our team's goal of bringing a championship back to Amarillo."
The Bricktown Brawlers will be the next team faced with the task of slowing down the Venom's return game as the Venom travel to Oklahoma City on March 13th. The Venom's first regular season home game is March 18th as they host the Wyoming Calvary. Season tickets can still be purchased through the Amarillo Venom offices, located at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo, by calling 806-350-7277, stopping by any United Supermarket location, or by going to www.panhandletickets.com .
