Amarillo, TX 3/1/11 - The Amarillo Venom may not have a game this weekend, but that doesn't mean they will take the week off as they will help with the Special Olympics Texas Regional Basketball tournament on Friday, March 4th, and then will be at United Amigos on Saturday from 1:00 - 3:00.
"Our guys don't have a game this weekend so we are able to spend more time this week helping the community," said Venom General Manager Joe Morgado. "This community does so much for us and we are glad we have opportunities this week to give back."
Venom players will be present at the Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) Media Night Friday, March 4th, as SOTX athletes team up against radio and television personalities in a friendly rivalry. Several Venom players will participate as well. The event will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Amarillo High School's Activity Center, located at 4225 Danbury. The night will begin with an inspiring Opening Ceremony, followed by the competition at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday Venom fans will have the opportunity to meet Venom players as several players will be on location at United Amigos located at 3300 East Interstate 40. Several players will be there from 1:00 - 3:00 to take pictures and sign autographs.
The Amarillo Venom will return to action March 13th as they head to Oklahoma City to take on the Bricktown Brawlers. The Venom's first regular season home game is March 18th as they host the Wyoming Calvary. Season tickets can still be purchased through the Amarillo Venom offices, located at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo, by calling 806-350-7277, stopping by any United Supermarket location, or by going to www.panhandletickets.com .
