The Trenton Steel Indoor Football Team announced the signing of three defensive backs - Chris Pollard, Jermaine Clemons and Gladel Brutus. Pollard, at 6-foot-2, 200 played two seasons at the University of Massachusetts after starring at Fort Scott (Kansas) Community College. He is a physical player who challenges receivers and is also known as an excellent special-teams performer.
Clemens, who is 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, also traveled the JUCO route, playing at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Glendale (Ariz.) Community College before spending two seasons at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He has a reputation as a shutdown cornerback and is also a capable kick- returner.
Brutus, 5-foot-11, 175, played at Benedict College in Columbia, S.C. During his career with the Tigers, he was equally effective as a run-stopper and blitzer as he was in pass coverage.
The Steel open their inaugural season in the Southern Indoor Football League March 19 at the Richmond Raiders, with their home-opener at 7:05 p.m. March 26 at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton.
