Prep, College All-Star Signed by Harrisburg Stampede
HARRISBURG, PA (February 23, 2011) - As the Harrisburg Stampede prepare to head to training camp next week, General Manager and Head Coach Bernie Nowotarski continues to fill out his roster.
Today the Central PA team announced the signing of Dennis Cooper a high school standout and All-Star at Pennsylvania's Cheyney University. Cooper also has two years professional experience and a national championship under his belt.
Nowotarski commented, "Coop came to our last workout by invitation from Coach [Steve] Gaunt. He did a really nice job at several line positions and in this business you can't have enough quality linemen. I am glad to have Coop and he will fit in real well with his teammates and coaching staff."
The 6'3", 330 pound lineman first gained notoriety at Baltimore's Edmondson-Westside High School where he was a four-year starter and was named to the All-City Team.
Following Edmondson he moved to Cheyney University where he lettered for four seasons. At the conclusion of the 2008 season he was selected to participate in the 2009 Valero Cactus Bowl, an all-star game featuring the top NCAA Division II seniors from across the country.
Cooper was joined by ten other Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) players at the game, which was played at Javelina Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Cooper then went directly from college to the pros suiting up for the D.C. Armor of the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) in 2009. In 2010 he was signed by the Baltimore Mariners of the AIFA and was a member of their national championship team which finished the season undefeated at 16-0.
